Happy Easter

Now that Spring is on it's way, I'm inspired to start creating more. The last couple months I've had very little time to sew... I've been itching to get back at it. Have any requests on types of sets your little girl would LOVE to wear? I'd love to hear. Simpler sets? Euro? Knits? Dresses? Right now my daughter is all about knits, she LIVES in them. Leggings & dresses are her absolute favorite.

Don't you think this little guy's future is worth it?

In Aug of this year Jaiden was accepted into the Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention program. We waited 13 long months for a spot. 6 weeks in Mary Polak & the Liberal government decided to cut this program as of Jan 31, 2010.

Our story made front page of the Langley Times. You can read about how much this program has helped Jaiden in such a short time here.

Yesterday we rallied to save this program & have this decision reversed.

Christmas in August?

Okay, so I admit I got some really weird looks from my neighbors as they stared at my kid dressed in long sleeves, tights & Christmas themed clothing in the boiling heat of summer. It's pretty funny the looks & curious stares we get when we do outdoor photo shoots. You custom boutique mammas know exactly what I'm talking about!

I really do plan to start blogging more. Life has just been really busy & we're all adjusting to a new schedule. Jaiden finally got into the EIBI program which he's been waiting over a year to get into. We're super excited about this program & hope Jaiden will really benefit from it.

This was such a fun collaboration for me to do! Maki really enjoys reading the Fancy Nancy books, so she had a blast modeling this set... so much so that she carried on the "role" of Fancy Nancy at school today. When I went to pick her up she was wearing her hot pink glasses & the teacher told me she insisted that her name was NOT Maki, it was Fancy Nancy.

Barbie Karaoke

I took this video of Maki singing about a month ago... She was still getting over a cold, so there are a few little coughs throughout. This song is from a Barbie movie she absolutely loves. The dvd has a karaoke section where kids can become the voice of barbie.

Our cold weather has seemed to go on forever this year. The kids (and myself) were SO happy to get out this afternoon as the sun decided to finally make a much needed appearance!
I love this particular park... today we had the entire place to ourselves, the kids played for hours.

Autism Lives Here

Meet Makayla (Maki). Maki is my 6 year old. She is an amazing little one. She makes me laugh so hard with some of the things she comes up with. She loves dressing up, playing barbies, reading, webkins & shopping (yes, already!) As soon as her dad & I laid eyes on her we were in love. Everyone that meets her feels the same way.

Maki has Autism.
She was diagnosed at 4 years of age. We noticed when she started preschool the differences in her immediately. She met all her milestones right on time. She was talking by 10 months of age. She was reading at 4. We just thought she was “sensitive”. She is SO bright.
But, we do have issues.... quite a few of them. Sensitivities to sounds being the main one. Problems with peer interaction. Some fine motor difficulties. Fixed interests & strict routines that must never be changed.
She has a full time assistant in grade 1 who has such a gift working with children. She also works at home with a behavior interventionist 1 day a week. We’ve seen so much progress in Maki in the past few years.

Meet Jaiden. Jaiden is my 3 year old. This little guy is such a sweet little mommy’s boy. He is my super cuddly one. He loves anything to do with making a mess... really, this kid gets into anything & everything he can get his hands on. He loves reading, music, Dora & jumping on the trampoline. He has the cutest smile & when he laughs everyone around can’t help but laugh too. He lights up a room.

Jaiden also has Autism.
He was diagnosed at 2 years of age. We knew the warning signs & unlike his very high functioning sister, he had 99% of the warning signs by the age of 18 months. He too, met all of his milestones (other than talking) on time. Jaiden is still non verbal. He still does not respond when his name is called. He does not interact with other children. He is starting to get more frustrated with not being able to voice what he wants/needs. We have him on a wait list for an intensive early intervention 20 hour a week program. Right now he receives 6 hours per week of behaviour intervention. Slowly, we‘re seeing progress.

In all honestly, I feel my life has changed for the better having these 2 amazing kids. I wouldn’t change their personalities for the world. If I could I’d take away the hard things they will both have to endure. I feel honored that I was chosen to be their mom. I’ve learned so much... My wish is that in my lifetime they can find the cause & cure for Autism. There is hope.

A quiet Saturday

Christmas Day

What a fun Christmas day our family had this year. Last year we were in L.A. for the holidays & spent Christmas in Disneyland... as fun as it was it just wasn't the same as Christmas at home. This year the kids had a ball, they were so excited & moving around so fast I was only able to get a couple snapshots of them. Jaiden finally has the whole present thing down, in fact he enjoyed it so much he wanted to unwrap every gift in sight the entire day. We spent the morning at home & later in the afternoon went to my parents to meet up with my sister, her fiance, his family & some extended family. My Mom made the most fantastic meal (as always!). All in all it was a great day. I was a big photo taking slacker for some reason this year... here is a little collage of the day.

White Christmas

It's Christmas eve & the snow is still falling. Absolute craziness out here & it still hasn't stopped! Our plans to go to my in laws tonight had to be cancelled. Matthew braved going to work this morning & it took him over 3 hours to get there.
Needless to say, we're staying put tonight.
